Introduction: The glycemic index (GI) is an important tool for ranking of carbohydrates on a scale from 0 to 100 according the extent to which they raise blood sugar level after eating. Foods with a high Glycemic index are those, which are easily absorbed, digested and result in slight fluctuation in blood sugar level. Low -A GI food, by virtue of their slow digestion, absorption produce gradual rises in insulin level, blood sugar and have complete benefits for health. Glycemic Index foods are also very important for pregnant women. They should eat healthy foods before they became pregnant and make sure that they and their baby start out with the nutrients, which they both need for. Because this is time to start taking a folic acid vitamin supplement. Folic acid is very important to the growth of newborn baby, especially during the first month of the pregnancy. Lack of proper folic acid in diet before the pregnancy may cause risk of serious health problem at birth such as neural tube defects. So it is very important for pregnant women that they should take Glycemic index foods, which will food for both.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION REGARDING DIET IN PREGNANCY

 

Baby's health completely depends upon the mother's health. During childhood and later life is closely related with the nourishment of baby that obtains from their mothers diet during pregnancy. Women's should intake the following GI diets during pregnancy:

1) Eat Enough Calories: Women's should eat about 300 extra calories per day during pregnancy. This is in addition to their normal calorie needs. These calories they should get from a well balanced eating plan of protein, good fats, fresh fruits and green vegetables.

2) Focus on Eating Healthy Nutritious Food: To get maximum health for both, they should take diet full of nutrition so that their babies can get proper growth, which is required.

CONCLUSION:

For pregnant women's Glycemic Index foods are very essential. Because Glycemic Index provide better nutrition to both. Proper GI foods are the complete energy diet for the pregnant women especially during the first month of the pregnancy.
