Dieting is believed to be good for health. It gives importance to good and healthy eating that not only keeps the person healthy but in proper shape. Out of many diets there is stress on having foods that is having low carbohydrates, as it is believed excess carbohydrate make oneself unhealthy. Low GI diet is a new way of loosing weight and healthy eating. It is a diet that stress on having carbohydrate foods that are having Low GI levels in food. It is evaluated on the basis of GI levels in the carbohydrate food. While GI means Glycemic index that is a chart that is formed on the basis of carbohydrate consumption.

Role of carbohydrate in low GI diet

 

Carbohydrates have been bad named for its excess glucose release, which is not required at the particular point of time. Atkins diet or Low carb diet which are very popular helped to grow this notion. Since these diets were scientifically made, people completely believed in them. Now results have proven that having Low carb foods have their harmful effects. They miss out on essential fat to the body. So an alternative to this is a Low GI diet which have carbohydrates in them but these carbohydrates release the glucose in the body gradually and timely. This is the major benefit of a Low GI diet as excess carbohydrate or bad carb is not present in them. Essentially, a Low GI diet consist foods that were known to people since long time that are healthy. They are mostly foods like fruits and vegetables. These foods not only contain low Level GI but also they are rich in proteins, vitamins and other minerals. Also they are low in fats. Hence, it is observed that a low GI diet offers not only a healthy food but also a complete food that satisfies all the necessities of the body but the foods are good in taste.

Carbohydrate Misconceptions

Traditionally, the food that people used to have had good amount of carbohydrates in them. But due to recent food habits, carbohydrate have been linked with junk food as the tastes of the people have changed. So, it is important to understand that carbohydrate foods are not bad but junk food are.
